Too Much Trust

I've heard that when you trust someone, you either have a friend...or a life lesson.  I can hold this thought for way too long, turning it over like a rough rock and trying to put a polish to it.

It's natural to trust those we know, especially if no one has turned on us too much.

Weird that this can relate to some IT security topics I'm reviewing.  It seems that cyber attackers, those we don't know are lying to us, may be infecting our memories and stealing from us, too.  Just like real relationships that have gone bad, they can create this seemingly innocent connection - they ask for info, they create urgency, they ignore, they steal, all based on the trust they created and abused with you.

So when you next get a questionable email or an instant message or a text, and you are commanded to click a link, or open an attachment, or reply with personal info - question it!  Always be cautious and assume your best interests are not being considered.  Think before handing over the most valuable thing you possess, your ability to trust.

The Morning After Vacation

It went so well, that little trip of ours.  It was a nice mix of planning, but not overplanning (quite a feat for several of us Type As).  We arranged dinner buddies, but not dinner, or serving time.  We felt only the pressure of the fading sun as we gathered to admire the lightshow of sunsets each night, and we wholeheartedly seemed to enjoy each other.

It was the perfect mix of togetherness...with cocktails.

The best way to get away from Monday depression is to get on the grateful train.  Write three things down today that I'm grateful for?  Love, loyalty, and airplanes.
The sunset, from my office window, not quite the same as
looking out at the Gulf of Mexico, but hey, I work to live!

From Sand to Snow

As I await takeoff at St Petersburg Clearwater, and think about the rest of my loved ones at the Tampa airport, and think about the previous week - I'm overwhelmed with gratitude.  It was a phenomenal week, highlighted by natural sightings (dolphins, pelicans, sea turtles, sandpipers, cranes, sand crabs, etc.) and  compelling conversations. I love my family, and I love my life.

Last Day

It was if we all knew, at the forefront of our day, that every hour was precious today. I couldn't settle down… I would take my book out to the deck and then I would decide to have coffee and then I would decide to play with Jacob and then I would decide to go on a walk.  Matt & Kelly surprised us with a barbecue lunch (complete w/ grilled salmon, mostly spoiling me I think).  We cracked open our third bag of double stuff Oreos... And Scott went on a mid-afternoon Similac/beer run.  Tonight, we celebrated the Iowa/Stanford Rose Bowl game with Geraldi's pizza. None are reporting eagerness to return home.  This is a week for the memory book! xo
